Editing 18th and 20th October

These pictures are of me, Ryan and Laurence editing our production further.

This week we started to make the lip syncing as good as it can be and start to add transitions and effects such as 'cross disolve' etc. It was quite surprising by just adding simple transitions how much it improves your work. At the end of today's lesson, as a group we decided that we needed to do more editing over half term if we are to meet the deadline for our first cut, so we arranged to meet up next Thursday.

Editing 13/10/11

Today we started to progress further with our editing, we started to cut down the shots and put them together, which was good as we got to see what the shots looked like. We also cut down the music and worked out where it ends when put with the actual video. Also today, we realised that perhaps we might have to work on it over half term, as possibly more filming could be necessary, but we will have to wait and see and find out on Tuesday when our next lesson is.

Editing 11/10/11

Today in lesson, we started by uploading the videos from the camera, however the first computer we used didn't work properly. So after we moved computer, we uploaded all of our shots and started to look at whether they were good or bad and most of them looked quite good with a variety of shots, much better than the previous filming. On Thursday we will start to put it together with the music and hopefully make a lot of progress

Production Schedule

This is our production schedule which will be used to ensure that we meet our deadline for the 1st cut.

Filming 8th October

Yesterday we met up at Cheshunt station and filmed on the train and in parts of Cheshunt. Firstly we filmed on the train to do a varitey of shots, these shots were of me lip syncing and we found it difficult as many people were on the train so it took time to find an area of the train that wasn't busy. Also a problem was when we was filming me walking on and off the train as other people were coming on or going off. After filming on the train for a good hour, we walked round Cheshunt to find a rough are and shot there. We found a area with garages that had graffiti on them, which was perfect and we shot again there. Overall the day was very successful and even though there was some shots that we had difficulty with, we got around it and managed to shoot them.

These are the two scenes shot at Cheshunt mentioned from our filming yesterday.

Ideas for Saturday filming

Also today we decided to plan for saturday, which is when we are next going to film. We are going to go to Cheshunt and other places if necessary to find rough areas where the main person can walk around and lip sync (on way to poker game) and we also need to find some double doors so that we can film me walking in and out of them, as the doors at the golf club are not right for the scene. As well as this we need to film the train scene where there is lip syncing.

Also on today we realised that improvements need to be made to our poker scene, so as the lighting is one of the problems, we are going to re-shoot certain parts in the evening which will help. Other things we need to improve are more close ups and reaction shots of me and Matteo (my nemisis), quicker shots and also a variety of shots, such as different pans and high angle, low angle shots etc.

Editing Poker Scene

Today in class, Me, Ryan and Laurence all had different tasks. Ryan was on a laptop, sorting out the production schedule and making sure it is up to date and to take a picture of it to put on the blog, Laurence was making a call sheet for our filming we are doing on saturday, which will also be put on the blog, and I was uploading the film from Tuesday and going through them and getting rid of the shots that we were not very good. We also started to put the shots in order, and worked out (by looking at our animatic) that the poker scene starts 1 minute 30 seconds into the song.

Poker scene props and location

October 4th 2011, we filmed the poker scene, here are some images of the location and the props used.

Shots we used

At our first filming session, we decided to be creative with the different shots. One of our shots is with the camera in the middle of the table and it pans round to show everyone's faces. We also tried many other shots, such as close ups of the cards, when the player is looking at them, so the audience knows what's going to happen as well. Overall we are happy with the shots we used and feel that we can go and edit them and try to improve on them

Filming Poker Scene

Today, instead of staying in lesson, we went off to start our filming. We filmed the entire scene at Whitehill Golf Club and was very successful. As we discovered during our AS production and Kneboworth filming, we knew that we had to film more than we needed, so that it would be okay once edited. The extras in this scene are Laurence and friends of Ryan and I; Charlie and Matteo. Overall the filming was successful as we used new ideas and developed on our original ones. As well as filming today, we took still images of the setting to show in our planning.

Filming problems

After last weekend not going well, this weekend didn't seem to change. Filming was put on hold as today we were scheduled to film at the Golf Club but due to work duties, we couldn't get access to the room that we wanted to shoot in so we have decided to shoot the poker scene in our lesson on Tuesday 4th October, when we have been told is fine to shoot and we will have all actors available to us.
