Making the Evaluation

As Laurence was in a lesson, me and Ryan put together our evaluation. Previous to this, we had all assigned ourselves to a question. This meant the responsibilities were equal and we could get a wider range of responses especially for the question that Laurence was assigned, which was peoples views on our production.

When making our evaluation, we wanted to have a lot of visual images, with brief descriptions of what the image is about, linking back to the question.

We have put music behind the evaluation. The music is Kasabian- Underdog but it isn't as loud.

6th March Editing & Filming continued

Today we also filmed the 'flash-forward' shots, we filmed the money clip shot, which worked very well. When editing the new flashbacks, it was tough to make them fit in at the end of the production but eventually, it worked well.

This is the 'money clip' flash-forward after editing.

6th March Editing & Filming

We shortened these two shots

Today we edited our production. From our last feedback,we were told to cut down some shots, such as me arriving and leaving the poker scene as well as the shutting of the case. So we did this, giving it a faster tempo which actually matches the music at that time of the video.

Ideas for production changes

In our last lesson, I proposed some new ideas for our production. As we were encouraged to add more flashbacks, I put forward the idea, that we could use them at the end of the production, as a flash forward type shot.

One of the shots that I proposed was a shot of me looking into the future as I was walking out of the poker game, of me looking at a money clip.

Another idea, is to link back to the final demand letter, and make it into a bank statement showing a lot of money.

3rd Cut Feedback

After receiving our first cut feedback, we found out that in fact there was still other changes that could be made. For example more flashbacks were encouraged as well as cutting down some of the shots that were 'boring'.

Final Editing and final filming17/2/12

After yesterday's filming, Ryan, Laurence and I had agreed to do filming in the afternoon, but after returning home both I found out I couldn't make the afternoon, so we decided to film in the morning instead. Unfortunately I couldn't get hold of Laurence till he contacted me towards the end of us editing, but nevertheless we got it done.

Firstly we uploaded the video off of the camera which we shot yesterday and put them into our production. The 360 degree shot which we did again yesterday was too boring just going around twice looking at the players focusing, so we both agreed to slow it down on the players faces and make it black and white. As well as this we made it look like someone was blinking on every player as if it was a POV shot. This worked very well as it makes it more interesting and more intense.

Secondly we edited the stairs scene which we shot yesterday also. This scene also looked quite boring with me just walking up the stairs, so we did another split screen... on the top is me walking up the stairs with the camera face on and on the bottom of the screen is the handheld view.

After realising that the stairs shot at the train station still needed to be re shot we did that again within the school premises improving the lip syncing and taking out the zoom that wasn't needed.

Lastly we needed to shoot a final flashback. For this I created a simple 'Last Notice' letter demanding over £500 which shows his lack of wealth. Then we simply filmed and over the shoulder shot of me looking at it and edited it into the train scene on the window, to act as a flashback.

Filming 16/2/12

Today we did the last of our filming before our final cut and final editing. This didn't take very long as we only needed to improve a few shots. The first one we re-shot was the 360 degree shot which we have had many problems with before. Although before arriving at the clubhouse we had already thought of an idea. To make this shot look fluent and keep the same speed, Ryan sat down on a chair that spins round and simply held the camera while moving him self around clockwise steadily with his feet. This was very successful and we were all pleased with this shot. The other one we did again was just a simple cut for the stairs scene of me walking up the stairs. This was so we could shorten the handheld shot of me walking up the stairs and cut away to a normal shot. Overall it was a very successful day of filming.

This is the kind of chair we used, which was very successful.

Plans for this weekend and Half term

Obviously due to previous problems we need to organise what needs to be done to our production over half term. Our teacher has said that we can get a camera from school and come in during half term to edit. so, the exact shots that we need to do are: (possible improvements on shots we did tuesday)
                                                                     spinny shot
                                                                     another flashback
                                                                     entrance (stairs/handheld)
We will be in contact with eachother so that we can meet at an appropriate time over half term to make these changes before our 4th cut.

Ancillary Task continued

Now my layout is all sorted, I have composed all the text for the advert, as well as the quotes, and I have also chosen the exact colours that I am going to use. The background will be a dark grey, with the text being a dark red. This will make it stand out to the audience and the colours will match the genre.

Filming 5th Feb

Today we did some filming before our 3rd cut deadline. Some shots that we changed was that we re-filmed the shot at the golf club, walking up the stairs. This time we used a tripod to carry the camera which made it steadier.
This is the original handheld stair shot .

5th Feb 2012 Filming Problems

After our filming on Tuesday we decided that we was to film again saturday evening as it would be the correct lighting for the entrance and other shots. As well as this because we did not anticipate certain problems, we left the camera in Matteo's car. The big problem was...snow! Around 7pm it started to snow really heavilly and we could get to the clubhouse, but we wouldn't of been able to get back, so we had to delay our filming to next week and use half term to film and edit.

31st January 2012 Filming

Today we wasn't in the lesson as we continued to improve our filming. Laurence couldnt get to the clubhouse so we did the shots that we didnt need him for today and at the weekend we will continue further. Today we filmed shots such as me walking up the stairs as only I was needed, but on Saturday, when we intend to film we can try and perfect the 360 degree shot.

This is what we filmed today.

More Ancillary Task

Today I continued with the ancillary task of the magazine advert by making a layout on fireworks and making the template. I will probably do the actual advert at home as there is easier access to un-blocked sites such as 'YouTube' etc and I have Photoshop, but today's lesson was productive as I now know what the magazine will look like on the computer.

10/1/12 Today's Lesson

As well as finding different adverts for which we can use, today's split focus was to make up a band name, the font for the Magazine and webpage and decide on the colours.

Ryan is taking the responsibility of the webpage as he does ICT and today began to design what it will look like etc. We then as a group had to decide on the colours and font of them both. We all agreed that the main colours should be black, white and red, however grey as well, as we can use the duller colours for the background and then the brighter colours such as white and red for the text.

An example of the Kasabian webpage (print screen):

The band name was quite a problem for us, so we went on a band name generator site and after many awful names 'The Bambinos' came up which we agreed on as it was taking too long.

Then we had to get a font which is appropriate and links to the music. Even though it firstly looks quite child like, it links to the video as he is playing a game and it is clear and easy to read.

http://www.dafont.com/mtf-toast.font?text=The+Bambinos - This is the link to the font that we are thinking of using.

10/1/12 Further planning

Firstly I looked for more inspiration and ideas from not only Kasabian magazine ads, but other bands, such as Arctic Monkeys and Beady Eye. Here are some of the adverts that I found.

^This is an advert for Beady Eye's song 'The Roller'.

^This is an advert for Kasabian's song 'Shoot The Runner'

^This is an advert for Kasabian's song 'Underdog'

These three examples are very useful as all of them are just advertising a song, rather than an album or a new band which is what we want to do. This is useful as we can look at how they have laid it out and what kind of content they use. The advert for 'Shoot the runner' is quite rare for Kasabian as they use lot's of vibrant colours which isn't typical for them. For the magazine we want duller colours, and need to make sure that the font, colours etc link to the webpage.

New schedule and improvements

As well as focusing on planning our ancillary tasks, we also had to plan when we will make our improvements as well as making sure we know exactly what we have to do at what times.

This is our new production schedule, we plan to film on Mondays in our free time and edit on Tuesdays, allowing some Tuesday lessons for working on our ancillary tasks too.We have also noted down what we need to do, so we are organised for filming.

Planning Ancillary task

Today we started to plan our ancillary tasks. The two that we have chosen to produce are the magazine advert and the web page. This will work well as Ryan does ICT so has experience in creating a web page and I do English which means I will be most suited to writing the text for both pieces. I have found an advert from the NME magazine for a Kasabian tour, which we can use as inspiration. This is a good advert as it gives us an idea of what kind of colours and imathe real band uses in one of their advert.

(Kasabian advert in NME magazine)

As well as this we also did a mock example of what our magazine advert will look like. Firstly we need to think of a band name and then think of the mise en scene which would link to the genre of music we are producing. The idea that we came up with is quite simple and will use not too vibrant colours as you can see from the actual Kasabian advert that they use duller colours. Also in the example magazine advert, it will include a main image, probably of me the main character (possibly from one of our shots), with quotes and appropriate headings etc.
